"Sweet Daddy Williams" marked the series debut of Theodore Wilson in his signature role of neighborhood hoodlum Sweet Daddy Williams, a total of six episodes (plus one other as a nightclub owner). JJ's newest portrait is recognized as Savannah Jones (Bebe Drake-Hooks), Sweet Daddy's current squeeze, intended to be a surprise for her when she returns from Las Vegas. James and Florida are stunned to learn that Sweet Daddy plans to showcase JJ in a one man art exhibit, an opportunity to put bad money to good use. However, when JJ starts wearing the same outre duds as his sponsor, James decides to put his foot down. Savannah herself is proud to be 'immoralized on canvas,' until she sees the finished product!

Introducing Sweet Daddy

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the initial appearance of Theodore Wilson as Sweet Daddy Williams. Curiously, Wilson made another appearance, in Season four, as a different character. More curiously, all his subsequent appearances were as Sweet Daddy. Many shows, including Good Times, have had the same actors in more than one role. The Sweet Daddy situation is unique because Wilson started in this role, went on to play another character, and then returned to his original role. The story of Sweet Daddy sponsoring JJ':s one man art show plays out as you might expect. Sweet Daddy pulls out when his main squeeze, Savannah Jones, is insulted by JJ's painting of her. John Amos has two great lines in this episode. When he sees JJ dressed like Sweet Daddy, James says: "get whatever that is out of here!" Then, Savannah says that JJ ought to know a lady when he sees one. James replies: "when he sees one, he'll paint one."
