Winning and losing the lottery
18 December 2016 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"Rich is Better Than Poor...Maybe" finds the Evans family all trying to earn the state lottery of $2500, JJ coming up with the lucky number. Rather than dream up ways to spend it, Florida reminds her children the importance of education, setting the money aside in a bank account for a rainy day. Enter Thelma's elocution student Edna (Tamu), who has other ideas of what to do with the cash, along with her sister Rozzie (Shirley Hemphill), both brandishing guns to hold the family hostage. More familiar territory better done in previous seasons. Shirley Hemphill was already co-starring in WHAT'S HAPPENING??? and eventually got her own series in 1980, ONE IN A MILLION.
