Helen Martin debuts as Weeping Wanda
kevinolzak2 January 2017
"Florida Flips" kicked off the second season, this time with Florida rather than James in an atypically foul mood. Even James wonders who put the bee in her bonnet: "lately, sleeping with her is like being in a phone booth with Joe Frasier!" Willona is convinced that she needs to discuss her problems with the same women's group that helped her through her divorce. Here, we're introduced to Helen Martin as Weeping Wanda Williams (first of seven), whose husband has a penchant for wife beating: "if my man didn't beat me up on Friday I wouldn't know the next day was Saturday...I'm loaded with inner strength, what I got to find me is a good left hook!" At first Florida dismisses the 'cackling hens,' but at home she realizes that her family is all she has to show for her life. James reveals his chauvinistic tendencies while she puts him at ease: "I don't want to walk ahead of you, but I don't want to walk behind you either, honey I want to walk with you."
