With both gardens dug, their crops and vegetables planted and a newly acquired goat in tow, Tom and Barbara's new lifestyle is firmly taking root.
Their next step is to convert their old greenhouse into a chicken coop, and fill it with livestock. However when every one of the chickens fail to produce a single egg, Tom and Barbara start to question the sexuality of their cockerel.
Meanwhile next door, Jerry and his wife Margo (Penelope Keith) are concerned for their neighbours who, in their eyes, are obviously suffering from some sort of mental breakdown.
They try to help by inviting Tom and Barbara to their home for a specially arranged dinner party with 'Sir' who is Jerry's boss and Toms former employer. This is done with the idea of getting him back into work.
However despite his egg yielding problem, Tom turns down all their offers boasting of how lucrative his new lifestyle is becoming and returns home with an empty stomach to an empty larder.
Is it time already to kill one of his useless chickens?
