Can the Good's harvest be gathered in before it rots?
17 August 2006 | by (Coventry, England) – See all my reviews

The first series of The Good Life comes to an end with Jerry and Margo all set to embark on a safari holiday in Kenya, and Tom and Barbara set to deal with their own jungle of vegetable as their first harvest dawns.

But when Tom pulls a muscle in his back the night before their harvest gathering begins, their very lifestyle is at stake. Tom is completely immobile and unless their vegetables are gathered in the next few days, their entire crop will rot.

To add further injury to this particular injury, there is a major storm on the same night which causes untold damage to the crops and outbuildings, making their garden look as Barbara puts it... 'like the Somme'

These crops represent their food for the coming year with plans to sell the surplus to pay bills and buy the things they need, yet all these hopes and dreams are all but dashed.

Tom and Barbara try roping in some of the local residence from the pub to help them, but when their pleas fall on deaf ears it seems their last hope has faded.

However when Jerry and Margo unexpectedly return early from their holiday, Tom and Barbara realise their only true support in their new chosen lifestyle, is the friendship of those who opposed it most.
