As cute as a baby

It's may not be one of the episodes that will make you laugh aloud, but it will certainly bring a smile on your face.

Sgt. Carter has "big plans....big, big, BIG plans!" for his hot date in town- extensive and elaborate maneuvers are planned, and he can't wait. Instead, he winds up entangled in Gomer's attempts to help out a platoon-mate who is stuck with guard duty and can't get off the base and home to take care of his wife and sick baby.

After getting ever more deeply tied up in Pyle's never-ending "errand of mercy", it looks like Carter's date has given up on him- until Gomer brings her by, and she sees that she hasn't been stood up for another woman, but a tiny baby who can only sleep in the arms of the person he likes the best- yes, that's right, Sgt. Carter, Marine babysitter extraordinaire!

The sight of the big, tough, hard Marine with the little baby in his arms proves irresistible to Carter's girlfriend, and they decide to go out to a movie before the evening gets any older...but since the baby won't be quiet for anyone else, they all decide to make it a foursome for the drive-in, and the sergeant reluctantly takes the baby as ordered. As they depart, his date remarks that "this will be the first time I've ever gone to a drive-in with a Marine and felt perfectly safe..." No wonder- as Sgt. Carter "has the situation well in hand...!"
