I just started watching Gomer Pyle starting with the first season and this is one of my favorite episodes so far. I was laughing so much.

Just caught this episode--definitely one of Gomer's best.
The basic plot: In war games, Carter feeds Gomer false information about their squad's objective and works to get Pyle captured so he'll mislead the enemy. Gomer keeps getting captured and escaping. Eventually, he is caught again and he outsmarts the enemy by telling them that his squads mission is the opposite of what he thinks is the real mission. But what he tells IS the actual mission.
When he learns from fellow capturee Duke that he has unwittingly led the enemy to where they'll capture the whole platoon, Pyle again uses ingenuity to escape again and this time he winds up capturing two whole platoons of the enemy. Their leader is a pre-MASH Corporal Klinger (Jamie Farr).
At the end, Gomer misses the colonel giving him a citation for his good work because he's been captured again. But we here his "Hoot-ee-hoot" owl call and see he has escaped again as Gomer walks up wearing a dress and high heels. I love the finishing line from Sgt. Carter: "I'm sure the colonel is in for a very interesting story."
Absolutely one of this series best episodes, and I particularly like that Gomer was smart, several times, in escaping and outwitting the enemy.
