Bea Arthur's real life son is in this episode. He plays a rookie police officer who goes to their house to vacate everyone due to the hurricane.
This episode was part of a three episode crossover between The Golden Girls and its spin-off's Empty Nest and Nurses. All three episodes have the characters deal with surviving the hurricane with characters from each show making cross-over appearances on the other shows. In the case of The Golden Girls Dinah Manhoff guest stars as her Empty Nest character Carol Weston. In addition local NBC Miami weatherman Bryan Norcross would play the weatherman for each series giving reports on the storm thus getting the characters through it. Ironically during the following summer of 1992 Norcross would come to greater national attention as the meteorologist who guided South Floridians through Hurricane Andrew one of America's worst natural disasters.
