Mother Load (#7.6)

Warning: Spoilers
Stan comes to take Dorothy to the psychologist with him to work on their relationship. The psychologist figures out that Stan isn't really in love with Dorothy but wants to be with her because of Sophia as he wants to get from her mother's love that he never got from his own. And Blanche gets to deal with the mother of the guy she goes out with and who doesn't go to bathrooms in other places.

The psychologist story was perfect. Incredibly funny. I liked the word play of "newsstand" and "new Stan". As well as the psychologist having the "little beard" that we unfortunately didn't get to see, the Freudian slips and so on.

Fourth time's the charm for Meg Wyllie.

Warning: Spoilers
Guest star Peter Graves is Blanche's latest conquest, a colleague of Rose's, and the subject of a roast that Rose is playing. He's Jerry Kennedy a local newscaster (with an incredible voice) with a possessive mother (Wyllie) who has all sorts of information that Rose could use, but Rose is too dim to pick up on them. Wyllie, already having been Candy the stewardess, one of Sophia's coworkers at the Chow Wagon and the wife stalking Rose, thinking she's dating her ex-husband, gives great delivery on her lines, and her voice is as distinctive as Graves is. The other plot involved Stan getting Dorothy to go to therapy with him, and creates a recurring plotline that will dominate much of the final season, thus weakening it. Fortunately, the plot involving Graves makes up for Dorothy's issues. Rose isn't really funny though exploiting her naivete. An episode of mixed quality, summed up in Jerry's line, "Wherever there's news, I'll be here!" For some reason though, Meg is billed as Mrs. Scott in the credits, not Millicent Kennedy.
