In one episode when Dorothy and Sophia are dressed up as Sonny & Cher, Blanche enters the room and says they could be celebrity look-alikes for the comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Cheech Marin later played a role as a chef in the spin-off The Golden Palace (1992) alongside Rue McClanahan, Betty White, and Estelle Getty.

This was Marc Cherry's first time as a writer on The Golden Girls. Years later he would go on to create the hit show Desperate Housewives, which also had female characters in the lead roles.

Years after making his guest appearance on The Golden Girls that Marc Cherry got his start as a writer on, Mark Moses would go on to star in a supporting role as a series regular for a couple of seasons on Cherry's hit series Desperate Housewives. He played Paul Young, the husband and widower of that show's deceased narrator Mary Alice Young.
