Both Christmas eps of "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" were pretty enjoyable
tavm26 December 2017
This is a review of two eps of "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour". First one is from December 21, 1969 of which his guests were Andy Griffith, Paul Lynde, Cher, along with his wife and kids. Andy does an amusing sketch of how much those items of "The 12 Days of Christmas" would cost for Glen to buy his wife. He is also a bartender nursing the ego of Paul Lynde as Kris Kringle. And all three do a sketch of what a certain toy is for. Cher performs "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" before dueting with Glen on a modern version of "Jingle Bells" The finale has them all along with the show's regular singers doing the Christmas songs. Well, actually Glen's family is mostly there for show as they don't do anything else except warbling with everyone else. The following year on December 20, George Gobel, Shecky Greene, Anne Murray, are guests along with Glen's wife and kids as well as his parents and three of his sisters of which he performs with his sisters and his parents have a number of their own. At least two of the kids perform a song this time. Gobel had a couple of pretty funny sketches with Glen, one of buying a greeting card done in rhyme and another of what to do with a turkey Gobel is very fond of. Shecky does a sketch of bringing more bells in a more traditional version of "Jingle Bells" (including a cowbell, shades of Christopher Walken way before his famous turn on "SNL"!) and a not-so-funny sketch of robbing someone's house on Christmas Eve. Ms. Murray performs her own original Christmas song "Christmas Wishes" before she and Glen perform a duet on "Winter Wonderland". Overall, both holiday eps of "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" were quite enjoyable and they both get the above rating.
