Seth MacFarlane, creator of the hit series Family Guy (1999), appears in this episode as Zach during Lorelai's graduation ceremony. The timing of his casting is curious, as Fox had recently canceled Family Guy (1999), having its "last episode air February 14, 2002; whereas, S2E21 of Gilmore Girls aired May 14, 2002. It wasn't until 2005 that Family Guy (1999) was renewed, solidifying Seth MacFarlane as a comedy heavyweight.
