Fifteen year old Chris shoots Mick Murphy, the leader of a trio of bullies. Chris believes he's killed him, and runs away, Chris happens to be the son of the local Police Doctor, Dr Kirk.
Boy with Gun is basically a remake of The weapon, a film from 1953, which started Steve Cochran, in which schoolboy Erik shoots a kid accidentally, after finding a gun, and goes on the run.
This is truly an excellent episode, further proof that Gideon's Way seemed to evolve and mature as it developed, some of these later episodes are so gritty and complex.
Chris is an outsider, with a protective mother and overbearing father, he's a product of his parents,
This is back in 1966, and it's questioning masculinity itself, more specifically what would now be referred to as toxic masculinity, this was way ahead of its time.
A first class cast, you'll see Anthony Bate playing Kirk, for me he was one of the best actors of the time, real gravitas. You'll also see Last of the Summer Wine's Joe Gladwin and Doctor Who's Michael 'jaw dropping' Craze, it's worth seeing for him alone.
Boy with Gun is a string contender for the best episode of Gideons Way.
9/10.
