Storyline
Melinda remembers how her relationship with her Mom got strained when she re-encounters the first ghost she ever saw. When younger, Melinda's mother could not deal with her daughter's prodigious and supernatural gift. This lead to a growing rift between the two. Melinda must confront her hostile mother (the ageless Anne Archer) in order to make right the situation for a little girl whom Melinda first knew back in grade school. The girl has died of leukemia, but at the time Melinda first encounters her, back in the second grade, she does not know how to help her. It takes the return of the ghost (Abigail Breslin) to get the ball rolling. The girl's parents are long divorced, which complicates matters. Archer is delightful as Melinda's sharp-tongued mother who harbors a deep, dark secret. The show's continuity is on display here, as the girl ghost goes from sickly-looking to absolutely radiant as she helps reunite her parents.
