Claymore (Charles Nelson Reilly) is depressed that women do not find him attractive. Captain Gregg (Edward Mulhare) offers to give him lessons in "suave". When Claymore strikes out on his next date, the Captain decides to find a "romantic setup" "to make a fuss over him" and give him confidence. Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) knows two ideal girls, Betty (Ellen Weston) and Paula (Eileen Brennan) and arranges for them to faun over Claymore while the two are at a restaurant. With his confidence raised, the woman he now goes after is a shock.
