Goofs

While at Control headquarters, Max leans against a blackboard, and the chalk-written formula transfers to the back of his suit jacket. He then goes to the airport where he tackles a woman. There are no chalk marks on his suit jacket in that scene, yet later, when he arrives back at Control headquarters, the chalk-written formula has returned to his jacket. See more »

Good script with a nice twist ending by Gardner and Carusco, two of the top comedy writers of the 1960's. Max's assignment is to guard top British scientist Professor Whittaker (Irwin Charone, who later appeared as Upjohn in "I Shot 86 Today") with the help of British secret service agent Chain (Dick Patterson). Smart keeps the Professor in his apartment where he has the familiar security devices, which of course do anything but provide security. There's a good scene where Max has to disarm a bomb and a nice tag on the episode. KAOS is led by a guy who used to be on the right side of the law, Herb Ellis. While playing a bad guy here, Ellis is best remembered as one of Jack Webb's early partners on "Dragnet", Officer Frank Smith. He has some funny scenes with his number one KAOS henchman, his foul up nephew Sidney. While Charone does well with his character, Dick Patterson brings very little to the party as Agent Chain. Yet he has a fairly long string of credits on IMDb. I can only guess he must have been a last minute replacement for someone else in what should have been a plum role but falls flat with Patterson's portrayal.
