Bender nearly marries Calculon!
22 July 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

As Bender waits for the robot bending competition to begin at the Olympics he is confident that he could out-bend the competitors; at least he is until he sees them in action; then his dreams are shattered. Then he sees the fembot benders in action and comes up with a plan; he disguises himself as a fembot and enters the competition. Everything seems to be going well till he learns that he will have to undergo a gender test or give up his five gold medals! Against the advice of the others the Professor carries out the procedure with the intention of changing him back after the test. Bender decides to stay female a little bit longer when he is first invited to appear on a TV chat show then longer still when he attracts the attentions of Calculon. After a whirlwind romance they end up engaged; the others will have to think up something suitably melodramatic if they are to stop the wedding without hurting Calculon.

This episode started well; I particularly liked the subplot involving Hermes coming out of retirement to limbo for Jamaica; his special fat redistribution suit was very funny. The various bending events Bender took part in during the Olympics were an inventive twist on real event; I especially liked the bending high dive. Things got a bit weaker in the second half though as the female Bender, who went by the name Coilette; isn't anything like ordinary women; in typical Bender style she is the sort of over the top obnoxious woman only seen on certain trashy daytime talk shows... of course some may find this hilarious; it just didn't quite work for me. Thankfully the 'wedding scene' was so over the top it was quite funny. Overall I though this was a weaker than average episode but even lesser Futurama episodes are worth watching.
