The final episode drew an audience of 52.5 million people, when it was first shown in the USA. This was the fourth most watched finale in US television history. Interestingly, "The One After The Superbowl", in season two (aired 28 January 1996), had higher figures with 52.9 million viewers.
9.64 million people have watched the series finale of Friends in the UK. Since then, it made three records. First, it was the highest rated program of 2004 for Channel 4 (UK's distributing Channel). Second, it was the highest rated non-British program for Channel 4. Finally, it was one of the highest rated ever for Channel 4 (excluding films, sports and special events), alongside the third series finale of UK's Big Brother (2000), which attracted 10 million viewers - which was the highest rated for Channel 4.
