Intense, then Touching
Hitchcoc23 October 2019
With the two jilted lovers taking the low road, not looking at their individual roles, our trio is reeling. But eventually a bomb goes off and they are made to realize that they must take the bull by the horns. Eventually, the forces join and there is a beautiful conclusion. I wish they would get ride of Daphne's brother. He is a kind of sickness over everything.

Touching and funny

Warning: Spoilers
This episode contains two moments that never fail to get to me, no matter how many times I see them. The first, obviously, is Frasier's toast at the reception. He manages to perfectly express how he and Martin feel about Niles and Daphne, without tipping his hand to Mel's stuffy friends.

And, remarkably, this episode contains the one moment where I feel genuine sympathy for Mel. When Niles comments on how lovely the itinerary for their non-existent honeymoon sounds, and Mel replies "It's not my fault we're not going." We're reminded that underneath her selfishness and manipulation Mel is still a person, and she's been deeply hurt. I always appreciate when writers take the time to show the humanity in unsympathetic characters.

And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon: Part 2

It's tricky reviewing an episode individually when it is so clearly meant to be judged as a two parter.

I thought this was a bit of a shouty and moany episode at times, but one that did have a lot of nice moments, as the creative powers that be try very hard to get out of the corner they painted themselves into at the end of the seventh series, while also trying to create a path for 'Frasier' to go down moving forwards.

The actors are on top form, and as others have said, there is an awful lot of light and shade here along the way.

Personally I don't mind Daphne's brother, I must be in the minority though.
