This is an unusual episode of "Four Star Playhouse" because although I freely admit that the episode was ridiculously over-sentimental and hard to believe, I still really liked it! The show begins with Mr. Hepp (Charles Boyer) being released from prison. He apparently is a con man and makes his fortune bilking impressionable ladies out of their money—and he's been doing it for years. Now that he's on parole, he's supposed to be a good boy, but he cannot help but notice his new next door neighbor since she's very rich and very lonely. Not surprisingly, he sees the lady behind his parole officer's back and soon has her head over heels in love with him—mostly because she's so needy and alone. However, Hepp is having a problem for the first time in his life—he finds himself caring about the lady. How all this ends is hard to believe since Boyer is playing a man who seems to be a sociopath, but it is very enjoyable and weepy. You might even want to have a Kleenex nearby as you watch. Some excellent performances and an interesting script make this one of the better episodes of the series.
