This was a pretty good episode of Forever Knight. Schanke was let loose and he did not grate on the nerves too much. Unlike most episodes where Detective Schanke comes across as very whiny, in this one he seems to be more relaxed, and his acting is happier. The character is complaining that he has never won the "Partners of the Month" award in spite of having an excellent record. The Chief (Natsuko Ohama) tries to makes some funny remarks also, and she is not too bad. For those of us who have grown used to seeing Lt. Anita Van Buren, from the Law and Order series; Natsuko Ohama is just too matronly for the role. I sometimes expect to see her coming out of her office with a tray of baked cookies. Even though she tries to play the role of a tough chief, she just looks too kindly and mothering to be the boss of a vampire.

As far as the story is concerned, Schanke is angry at Nick for always getting the glory by being one step ahead of Schanke. Meanwhile, Schanke is separated from his wife, and he moves in with Nick and starts arguing with Nick even more. It is kind of sad, since Schanke tells Nick that Nick is his best friend, and yet Nick usually treats Schanke like a buffoon. By the end of the story, the characters are all fighting with each other, and it takes some sympathy from Janette to set Schanke straight and eventually Nick comes around and does a good deed too. Alls well that ends well.
