Lacroix: Nicolas? I knew you still had it in you.
[Lacroix notices Nick's stunned silence]
Lacroix: You must have had some idea it was me.

Lacroix: You didn't actually believe you'd killed me, did you?

This was the first episode of season two. LaCroix is back in the present, which is great. After getting killed off early in season one, LaCroix had been exclusively seen in flashback scenes. I wonder if the people that were writing and producing this series ever completely understood how much better the show was when LaCroix was involved? Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies) played his role as too much of a milk-sop. He could have been playing Mahatma Ghandhi. While I enjoyed Knight's personality, it played off the bad boy of LaCroix a lot better than it did off the loud-mouth Detective Schanke. Schanke (Gary Kopelos) was usually written as some kind of goof-ball, so there really was no flash or chemistry between the character of Schanke and Knight.

In this episode, Knight gets set up for murder by LaCroix. The real murderer is someone that they all know and do not suspect. A cool twist in the story is when the coroner, Nan, tries to fake the DNA samples in order to exonerate Knight of the murder. She does not realize it, but she uses the samples from the real killer, so her efforts to help Knight end up incriminating him.

In a very positive development in the characterization of Schanke, he also goes out on a limb to help Knight, and the police department ends up putting an all-points bulletin for the arrest of both of them. That was pretty cool, as usually Schanke is left behind to do paperwork and rarely has anything important to do in most episodes. While Schanke is trying to find the human killer, Knight is trying to find out who framed him, and the end of the episode features several dramatic and action-packed confrontations. This is one of the better episodes in the series.
