Though "Dino" was introduced in a couple of episodes, this is the one where they meet him for the first time. The dinosaur acts like Phil Silvers, one of the producers' favorite actors. This is the only time Dino speaks, as he barks for the rest of the episodes voiced by Mel Blanc.
Dino was introduced as a talkative, wisecracking character. For the rest of the series, he only "barked" and never spoke again.
This is the only episode where Fred and Barney go hunting. Instead of guns, they use clubs to hunt dinosaurs.
At Hanna-Barberra, they frequently used the shortcut of giving characters voice impersonations of then well-known performers. It's an instant personality. The Dinosaur Fred and Barney hunt here is based on Phil Silvers, even given to repeatedly using Silvers' catchphrase, "Glad ta see ya!"
It could also be said that Dino does a take-off of Captain Binghamton from McHale's Navy in the way he asks Barney and Fred about their hunting license. (Quote "Where's your hunting license? Where where where where where?")
