Trivia:
The derelict spaceship set was recycled from an old "Power Rangers" series. moreGoofs:
Crew or equipment visible: After Wash manages to save the day and get rid of the reavers, everybody congratulates him, and you can see him standing at his console looking like he's holding the helm, but when the camera moves you can see he's empty handed, he doesn't hold anything, although him holding his hands high suggest just that, he's driving, or holding the helm. moreQuotes:
Commander Harken: [has ordered the crew to be taken into custody] I want every inch of this junker tossed.Kaylee: [offended] "Junker"?
Mal: Settle down, Kaylee.
Kaylee: But Captain, did you hear what that purple-belly called Serenity?
Mal: Shut up!

This episode is our first introduction to the REAVERS. We never see them in Bushwacked or nor through the whole firefly episodes. Even though the pilot Serenity is the introduction of REAVERS it is aired out of sequence. The Big Damn Movie by the name of SERENITY shows us Reavers and their grotesque fowl look for the first time we just imagine them as the horrid creepy cannibals that they are. Look this episode has the feeling of alien in it. Your waiting for something to jump out at you. AND IT DOES. When Big Bad Jayne the Merck is scared its time to lock and load. Captain Reynolds only priority is to protect the women. War veterans can not deal with the lack of humanity that Reavers reap upon their victims. When you sniff REAVER country its time to hit the black and get back into the verse with Alliance cruiser near by.
