Aeryn's grief
29 August 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

After the death of Crichton Aeryn has left Talyn and gone down to Valldon; a planet full of mystics and criminals; as she walks through a crowded square we see Crichton but she walks straight past him; a strange man with bleeding eyes comes up to her and tells her that he can help her contact the dead, she isn't interested but there is clearly something odd about the place. While in her room she contacts somebody saying that she does indeed want somebody 'raised'; it isn't Crichton though; it is her father. When the creature arrives it announces that it is in fact her father and can prove it genetically! Meanwhile Rygel and Stark have come down looking for Aeryn and finds that it is a real family reunion... her mother Xhalax is there too! They return to Talyn and confront Crais about how she could be there when he claimed to have killed her. It turns out Aeryn's mother and 'father' have a plan to make her suffer.

After the comedy of 'Revenging Angel' this is particularly dark; Valldon is one of the gloomiest planets visited so far. The characters here were particularly hideous in a way that may disturb younger viewers. There were some laughs though; mostly proved by Stark; Paul Goddard does a great job in the role, managing to be manic without being ridiculous. Linda Cropper makes a welcome return as Xhalax Sun; it was good to learn more about her character's motives for hating her daughter. After several episodes with the crews separated it looks as if they will finally be reunited as the episode ends with Talyn discovering the communications of another Leviathan.
