Aeryn meets her mother
16 August 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This episode opens with Talyn on the surface of a strange heavily vegetated planet; they have landed so that he can undergo repairs. Before these repairs can be completed he senses the Peacekeeper retrieval squad; Aeryn, Crichton and Crais head off in an attempt to lure them away from Talyn. The retrieval squad consisted of three Colartas, mercenaries with incredible tracking abilities but hindered by the planets gravity, and Xhalax Sun; mother of Aeryn Sun! They get into a fire-fight and Aeryn gets separated from John and Crais; she manages to capture her mother and takes her back to Talyn. Here she escapes and overcomes the crew; leaving Rygel for dead. Meanwhile John has a plan for dealing with the Colartas which Crais doesn't like at all.

This was another good episode; the highlight of which was Aeryn's encounter with her mother; Linda Cropper did a fine job in the role of Xhalax Sun; a dangerous character with just the slightest of hints that she might care about her daughter despite her protestations to the contrary. There are plenty of tense moments; in particular when it looks as if Xhalax has killed Rygel and the final standoff where Aeryn must decide whether or not to kill her mother. There planet had a great atmosphere; creepy in a way that reminded me of a less swampy version of Degobah from 'The Empire Strikes Back'.
