A bleak middle part to a three-part story
27 June 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

After the supposed victory at the end of the first part things quickly go down hill for Moya's crew; they get to the site of the slave auction and learn that Scorpius has beaten them to it and purchased the lot that contained D'Argo's son. They will have to mount a second mission against the shadow depository and this time they will be expected! In order to succeed they will need help from some of the less pleasant characters they encountered earlier in the series. While John, Aeryn and D'Argo are off Moya looking for this 'help' Rygel and Chiana decide to help themselves to some of the loot and discover that far from being rich they are in great danger as the ingots are in fact metal eating creatures and they are devouring Moya?

This episode was bleaker than most; just about everything that could go wrong did and the ending left a member of the crew in Scorpius' custody. Where things did go right it was at great cost; clearing the infestation caused great pain and damage to Moya. It was good to see some old enemies again even if circumstances have meant they aren't quite as menacing as they were before. It had been made clear previously that Scorpius was a fairly unpleasant enemy and his killing of the slaves will only serve to reinforce that view. When not killing slaves and taunting Moya's crew Scorpius gets kinky with Natira; something disturbing and amusing in equal measures! There are one or two happy moments at least... such as when Rygel takes the head of an old enemy.
