Everybody wants wormholes
Tweekums26 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Shortly after this episode begins a wormhole opens near Talyn; they can see an Earth-like planet through it but scanners say it has no mass! It turns out there is no planet there it is just an illusion created by the Ancients to get there attention. Soon the ancient that has taken on the appearance of John's father, Jack, appears and confronts Crichton. He wants to know why they have seen a strange alien in a worm hole; an alien that appears to be piloting Crichton's module. Crichton has no idea what the alien is but Rygel immediately recognises it as a Charrid; a species that wiped out Billions of Hynerions a millennium ago... clearly not a race one would want to have wormhole technology. They figure out that the only other person who could have replicated John's module is Furlow so they pay her a visit and find the planet has been decimated and is crawling with Charrids. Jack believes the information in Crichton's head may be essential but before they access it the must get rid of Harvey! This isn't there only problem; a Scarran Dreadnaught is on its way and Talyn has been blinded by a solar flare... with all this to worry about it is little surprise that the episode ends with '... to be continued'.

This was a good opening part to a two part story; it contains plenty of dramatic action and a real sense of danger. It was a lot of fun to see Rygel manning the gun turret and rather disturbing to see just how much he appeared to enjoy interrogating the Charrid prisoner! It is scenes like these that make the viewer forget that he is only a puppet. It was nice to see Magda Szubanski return as Furlow; a fairly mercenary character but not inherently bad. The scenes between John and Harvey were as surreal as ever; especially when they were on a roller-coaster together. As good as this was the next episode promises to be even more exciting as it looks as if they will have to find a way to confront the approaching dreadnaught... I can hardly wait!
