Very entertaining!

Perhaps one of the better episodes I've seen from this series. Lynda Day George was beautiful as usual, and her story was the best. I found her acting off a few times (a woman screams as Jack is ripping her, and she only casually glances in that direction, never altering her rhythm, never showing concern nor alarm) but I guess she's relied on her looks her entire career and, much like Jaclyn Smith, that's enough for her.

The other story, I really enjoyed the old lady. Her screen presence was magnetic and her acting was very good. Then I looked her up and couldn't believe it was that creepy gal from Addam's Family. Never liked her in that but I hardly ever watched a scene of that boring show, before turning the channel. The younger gal who played her daughter seemed very familiar and was very good as well. I did think that Lyle Waggonner and the average looking guy (Ken Berry?) should have traded parts as I'd have liked to see what Lyle would have done with his part but I reckon he was too handsome to play the "inept with women" character.

We see Mr. Roarke perform some magic, and we have 2 historical characters: Don Juan and Jack the Ripper. I usually am bored with a story and look at my watch or just fast forward the boring story, but I found both entertaining. This was a charming little series, and I'm giving it an 8/10 though I probably enjoyed it all the way up to 9/10. This is not an 8 the way you would critically rate all the qualities of a show, and not to compare it to Casablanca, of course not: I'm just rating my enjoyment of it. I haven't seen this series in a long while and it's a pity there aren't TV channels I get that air it daily, they just rehash the same shows for the past 5 years, on a loop of all seasons. So I just caught an episode on YT and that made for an entertaining hour.

Roarke and the Ripper

As I've stated on several other reviews of this show, there's one sappy story, and one darker story, with the latter being far better. I don't like Ken Berry very much, as he practically has the same tired fantasy as he had in a 1978 episode; he wants to be attractive to women. Yawn. This story is slightly better than that earlier segment, as it stars a few familiar faces in Carolyn Jones, and Lyle Waggoner. Stanley(Berry)wishes to be a gigolo, but eventually has second thoughts about using women, like any woman would want to be with this fool anyway, but it ends on a good note, although it seemed somewhat forced. The other, and better story has Lorraine Peters(Lynda Day George)writing about a book about the famous killer Jack the Ripper, played solidly by Victor Buono. The door and room that led from the island to London was pretty neat, and the foggy atmosphere, although on a set, was also quite creepy and effective. I do wish the segment ended on a better note, but this story was far better than the other one.
