The Many Romances of the New Captain Kirk
18 January 2014 | by See all my reviews

Or Bonanza, if you will.

Our hero finds a woman only to lose her in one way or another; accident, illness, sacrifice.

Always something.

Such was the case here, and perhaps it was too soon in the show for Varian, essentially the designated leader of our clan, to suddenly be swayed by a pretty face, profess his undying love and then have that love die in the fiery pit.

Well, love did conquer all, I guess.

And perhaps there was a part of me that did also recognize Varian's betrothed from Helter Skelter, so it was difficult to buy she was a woman someone could automatically love after seeing her with the shaved head (she portrayed Patricia Krenwenkel).

I think I had always felt Varian was supposed to be paired up with LIana anyway. They made a nice couple, I believed.
