John Agar shows up Brian Keith
23 December 2016 | by (Los Angeles) – See all my reviews

There is a rodeo at Madison Square Garden and Uncle Bill (Brian Keith) decides to cancel a trip to San Francisco and spend more time with the kids. This doesn't include series regular Kathy Garver (as Cissy), who appears only briefly. Bill takes Buffy (Anissa Jones) and Jody (Johnny Whitaker) to the rodeo and recognizes one of the riders is his old friend John Agar (as Gabe Nelson). Uncle Bill invites Mr. Agar to stay at the Davis apartment. Buffy and Jody take a liking to Agar (calling him "Uncle Gabe") and Bill has to play second fiddle. After declining an offer to see "Hansel and Gretel" with his employer, Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot) gives Agar a back rub and plots to reverse the affection transfer. Once mocked as "Mr. Shirley Temple," Agar is great with the children. His lively screen persona contrasts very favorably with Mr. Keith's very laid-back acting. Agar isn't enough to raise the episode above low average, but he does add some pep.

**** What Did You Do in the West, Uncle? (4/17/67) William D. Russell ~ Brian Keith, John Agar, Anissa Jones, Johnny Whitaker
