In this episode, it's Mrs. Garrett's birthday, and while Blair can clearly afford something nice, the other girls, Jo, Tootie, and Natalie, not so much on their own. However, they do have enough money to pool together to get a real nice shirt at a mall boutique. Unfortunately, by the time they go in to buy it, it is found the price they saw it at was a sale price and the sale ended the day before, leaving them now unable to afford it. However, undaunted, Jo pulls a shoplifting job to still obtain the shirt. Unfortunately, this is exposed when Mrs. Garrett decided to go back to the store to exchange it for a different color scheme and is detained by security. After she convinced the officer it was a gift, she confronted the girls, and Jo takes the bullet for it. To have charges dropped against all of them, she cuts a deal to have Jo work off the one she put in layaway, and Tootie and Natalie cover for Jo in her absence at the school. The one good note; Mrs. Garrett is going on a date with the security guard.
