It reminded me of the excellent 1960s thriller, "The Satan Bug".

One of the best unsung films of the 1960s was "The Satan Bug". It was a film about a derranged man who secreted a killer virus from a government facility...and he seemed unafraid to unleash it. Well, in many ways, this wonderful movie is reminiscent of "The Plague Merchant".

Mr. Lannen (Arthur Hill) is a desperate man. His daughter has huge medical expenses and he cannot possibly pay for them. In desperation, he decides to do something illegal but relatively benign...to steal a hand lotion in the research phase and sell it. However, what Lannen doesn't know is that the vials are NOT filled with a harmless lotion but a virus capable of killing millions! Once he is confronted and learns what he's actually done, Lannen is quite cooperative...but what about the virus and what about the evil agent known as 'Jago'?!

This is a tense and interesting episode. Not among the very best but still very good....and unusual because it humanizes Lannen and makes you care about the man and his family.
