A decent enough episode that perpetuates a couple old myths.

The idea of "The Legend of John Rim" is very good....the execution is less than stellar because the writer didn't do their homework.

When the story begins, John Rim has escaped from prison and is hiding out in a shack in the swamp. When the homeowner notices John, he's murdered...bludgeoned to death with an old jug! Catching this brutal multiple murderer has proven tough for the FBI and local authorities. It seems that years ago, John saved the lives of a bunch of kids on a bus. And locals refuse to believe that this same man has now killed four people!

There are problems with the script. The two myths that are perpetuated are that when bitten by a snake you are supposed to cut open the wound and suck out the poison...which Inspector Colby does. The other is that you can drown in quicksand, but the Encyclopedia Brittanica says that a person cannot drown in it...period. Add to that the lack of any sort of southern accents in most of the actors playing the locals and you have an episode where the director and writer were sloppy. Still, despite all this it IS entertaining and probably still worth your time.....just don't believe everything you see and hear on TV!
