Great guest stars...mediocre script.

"Conspiracy of Silence" has a pretty amazing lineup of guest stars, with Gene Tierney*, James Daly, Kent Smith and Kevin McCarthy. As for the story itself, it's okay...worth seeing but certainly not a great one.

The story begins with a Mob hitman killing a retired law professor who lives at a retirement community. However, on his way away from completing his job, he's seen by three of the murdered man's friends....and the Mob doesn't like loose ends. So, they send the killer to find the three and eliminate them. Can Erskine and the rest of the FBI stop him from completing his mission as well as uncover the evil within this Leisure World locale?

This is a decent episode. However, I did wonder why the Mob didn't just kill the hitman and be done with it...no loose ends and end of story. Allowing him to continue working for them after bumbling the mission seems confusing and didn't make sense. After all, these ARE evil mobsters and simply killing the killer would have made the most sense.

*While Ms. Tierney looks to be about 60 here and is playing an elderly woman, she was only 49 at the time. Sadly, her mental health and various hospitalizations evidently took their toll on this poor lady.
