Trivia

The pose that Chief Wild Eagle takes on horseback while being photographed by Sergeant O'Rourke and which the sergeant suggests he will call "The End of the Trail" is identical to that of the famous bronze statue of the same name done by Western artist James Earle Fraser. (This statue is frequently wrongly credited to Frederic Remington, another western artist who did bronze statues on similar themes.) See more »

Goofs

Col. Donnely says he expects an "18 gun" salute for Gen. Grant when he arrives at the fort. There has never been a practice of a salute with 18 guns, as the normal number would have been for 21. While lesser dignitaries might receive fewer guns, the number of guns used is always an odd number and would never be an even amount like 18. See more »

Quotes

Wrangler Jane Angelica Thrift: [Wilton and Jane are alone together] Oh Wilton, you're so sweet
[she kisses him on the cheek]
Wrangler Jane Angelica Thrift: and so thoughtful, and so kind.
[She kisses him again while in the distance the cannon is fired]
Capt. Wilton Parmenter: Did you feel that? Somewhere between "thoughtful" and "kind" I think the Earth moved!
Wrangler Jane Angelica Thrift: I do thank you for the compliment but you deserve most of the credit. Wilton Parmenter you're a kissing bearcat - come on and pucker up!
[She kisses him again]
Capt. Wilton Parmenter: Careful now, you'll bend my saber.
