Robert uses a Co2 fire extinguisher in the shot outside the car. In the next shot, the white powder on Ray and Debra suggests that he used a dry chemical fire extinguisher.

Revealing mistakes 

When Ray's car catches fire, Robert puts it out with a fire extinguisher that he sprays on top of the closed hood. Had it not been a staged fire, Robert would have had to lift up the hood to put it out.
