Amy's parents meet Frank and Marie
29 August 2008 | by (Greensboro, NC) – See all my reviews

This episode is from Season 7 of "Everybody Loves Raymmond" and originally aired in February 2003. Amy and Robert are engaged and she has invited Frank and Marie over to her apartment for brunch. Before Frank and Marie arrive, Amy's parents show up at her doorstep, uninvited. Amy is a little stunned, and then Robert comes waltzing in from the bedroom in just his underwear. Amy's parents are extremely religious and are shocked. Amy & Robert try to talk their way out of it, but only make matters worse.

Meanwhile, Frank and Marie show up. Marie tries to make nice, but Amy's parents are rude and offensive towards the Barones. Then Ray & Debra show up. Ray tried to get Debra to leave and not get involved. But Debra steps in, thinking she can help Amy by trying to get the families to get along. It only makes things worse. Amy storms off to her bedroom. Then it dissolves into a bizarre group prayer with everyone trying to participate. Then Peter, Amy's brother, tries to enlist Ray's help in the hallway to agree to break up Robert & Amy. Ray sees how demented Peter is and won't go along. He goes to Amy's bedroom door and tells her to forgot the families and that her Robert are meant to be together. She finally comes out and her and Robert leave to go out for brunch, leaving the rest of the family.

I didn't like how this episode made fun of praying and was quite disrespectful and irreverent. It paints Christians as being fanatics and close-minded idiots. There are some funny moments, especially the muffin episode where Frank takes one from Marie and stuffs it in his pants. She proceeds to chase him around the living room and finally smashes it to crumbs in his pocket. But I just find the rest of the set-up with Amy's parents to be demeaning of Christians.
