The crew of Enterprise is installing a subspace amplifier when an unidentified ship drops out of warp. No contact is made and the ship disappears as suddenly as it came. But the mystery ship returns and this time it's a lot more hostile; Enterprise is severely damaged. Archer is sick of being constantly left at the mercy of alien ships. Despite the objection of Reed and Tucker who think they can do it themselves, he orders Enterprise to return to Jupiter station to install phase cannons. Meanwhile Hoshi must find out the favorite food of Reed. Archer wants to surprise him on his birthday party. Written by Arnoud Tiele (

When Dr. Phlox allows Ensign Hoshi to view Lr. Reed's medical file and reveals he receives regular injections to deal with his allergy to pineapple (his favorite food), this is a breach of doctor-patient confidentiality, and not even Captain Archer could order Phlox to divulge such information under any circumstances. At the very least, it would get Dr. Phlox's medical license revoked, and, were he a Starfleet Officer, subject to court martial. See more »

Captain Jonathan Archer: Don't you ever rest?
Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: You know, I can't sleep without the warp engines online. If I don't feel those vibrations, something just doesn't seem right.
Captain Jonathan Archer: Well, I hope you get 'em fixed soon, because you look like hell.
Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: Well, with all due respect, Captain, you shouldn't be talking.

A minor episode
21 March 2015 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

This is an episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise" where not a lot of consequence occurs. This isn't a complaint--more a comment that you shouldn't expect huge changes in the overall theme of the show.

The main plots involve Archer's annoyance at how crappy Enterprise's weapons are. When they are once again attacked with no provocation (a common theme in the earlier shows), he is mad because they are so defenseless. So, unfortunately, he plans to return to their home and get a refit. At the same time, Malcolm and Trip work on the systems to try to see if they can create better and stronger weapons. The other plot is about Malcolm's birthday and the crew's attempts to find out what he likes to eat so they can throw him a dinner.

While this one is worth seeing, it's also worth skipping. Not bad at all...just very slight.
