The planet Weytan was an inspired wordplay from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) characters Weyoun and Keevan, members of the Vorta species. They were played by Jeffrey Combs and Christopher Shea who play Andorians here.
Suzie Plakson who appears as the Andorian Tarah also played a Q in Star Trek: Voyager: The Q and the Grey (1996), the Vulcan Lt. Doctor Selar in Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Schizoid Man (1989) and the human-Klingon hybrid K'Ehleyr in Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Emissary (1989) and Star Trek: The Next Generation: Reunion (1990).
This is the first episode of Enterprise to have all the monitors on the bridge changed to display alert status during tactical alert.

Gary Graham (Soval) was once considered for the roles of both Benjamin Sisko and Captain Janeway before the decision was made for Janeway to be female and for Sisko to be an African-American.

Jeffery Combs has the distinction of portraying eight different characters on Star Trek series. He has played the roles of Brunt, Weyoun, Shran, Tiron, Kevin Mulkahey, Penk, Krem, and a holosuite guest. He is one of only five actors to play seven or more different characters in the Star Trek franchise, the others being Randy Oglesby, J.G. Hertzler, Vaughn Armstrong and Thomas Kopache, all of whom have been Combs' costars at some point.
