When one of Ellery's books is being made into a movie, he and his father are brought to Hollywood to watch the production. They meet the actor playing him, who is pompous. He's shooting a scene wherein he gets shot but he drops dead. Apparently someone placed real bullets in the gun. They offer to investigate but the investigator refuses their help until they run into the man's boss whom they know and he instructs the detective to let them help. Ellery wonders who could have had a motive to kill him. It seems like the man is a philanderer and his wife was aware of it. His co-star is upset that the role in the movie is being reduced because the star requested it. And the director whom he butts heads with. But when another person connected to the movie is killed, Ellery wonders are they connected or did someone make a mistake?- Written by email@example.com
