Trivia

Pamela Bellwood (Claudia Blaisdel Carrington), on lighting the candles near the end of the episode, nearly got trapped herself by the curtain of flames. The look of horror on the actress's face wasn't rehearsed - it was genuine. See more »

Quotes

Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [wet and bedraggled in the pool after having been pushed in by Amanda, who fell in along with her] Well, Miss Perfection. You look like a cat on a rainy night.
Amanda Bedford Carrington: [sputtering] You pathetic little twit!
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You'll never get Clay, Amanda. He wants a real woman, not a plastic excuse for one.
[turns her back on her, wading out]
Amanda Bedford Carrington: [grabbing her by her hair from behind, pulling her back] I haven't finished with you yet!

...and there goes the sick season... er, sixth season...
23 November 2016 | by (South Africa) – See all my reviews

I have been a devoted critic of this season of DYNASTY. I stick to my guns that DYNASTY actually derailed when former lead character feisty Fallon became soft due to a pregnancy. Then there were superfluous characters introduced that led nowhere, from Dr. Nic Toscani (forgotten the actor's name) to the infamous Rock Hudson casting, not forgetting (a) that long-faded star from LOVE STORY, Ali MacGraw, and (b) oddly out-of-place Diahann Carol, both of which always seemed like useless appendices, and were just about as much fun. But I always focus on the good things. Well, my loyal followers would tell that I focus on the feather-footed chickies, and, yes, there were two of them later on during the series that were more than enough to make you forget about Fallon (except when they resurrected her played by another actress) (which reminds me, that same fate also befell the character of 'plastic surgery' Steven, ooh the exasperating ludicrous stuff we poor loyal viewers had to put up with)... But anyhooo, Heather Locklear and Catherine Oxenberg... Look, normally I prefer my soaps to be MELROSE PLACE, 90210, SAVANNAH, nicely glossy, which DYNASTY, despite its bling, doesn't have, being old, from a vastly different era. But I've put up with DYNASTY on my viewing schedule for a long time now, and the show remains popular, because of those two classic co-starring starlets.

So, it was farewell today to Catherine Oxenberg, she held out for more of a pay-cheque, and sort of went the way of predecessor Farrah Fawcett-Majors, don't stand up to the powers- that-be in an Aaron Spelling production, it won't work.

But let me now tell you a cute story. Years and years ago, back in the day, I wanted to see DYNASTY. But I live in a desert town. Reception was limited to the national TV channel, TV1. And DYNASTY was on TV4. I never got to see it. Just read about in in the press. One night, on a TV1 journal program, an inset about DYNASTY, "a fight in a swimming pool..." I have since forgotten the exact detail, as usual added to it in my fertile imagination, could have sworn a sparkly blue dress was involved... But today, dear IMDb, after more than thirty years, I finally saw this episode, the fight in the swimming pool... Ooh I'd rather be as young again, but okay, second prize, saw it! And it's a sparkly red dress. Worn by Heather.

Sammy Jo and Amanda at it in the pool! It's a classic! Which is why I give this a 9! A total must-see!

It's Heather all the way. Catherine's Amanda has become smug. The dress also did her no justice. I mean, that's Catherine Oxenberg, and you put her in that unyielding-looking* thing? Heather's outfit is dyna-dyna-dynamite. The whole time, as season progressed, Heather's Sammy Jo is on the way up, while Catherine's Amanda is becoming just-too-unattractively petulant. According to the story, Amanda is the good girl, well, spoiled rotten, but a good girl. Sammy Jo had done some way, way unforgivable things, actually, she's an uncorregible tramp, unfit mother, but the script has buried that, that's all forgotten, this is the new Sammy Jo, and she's Mom's apple pie now (with the occasional kick)...

*looked at the scene again, that was unfair comment, it's actually a soft-looking sort of pleathery thing, I suppose, but by comparison to Heather's outfit, doesn't make the grade, no, I stand by that.

***Spoiler Alert***

I have nothing but contempt for the cliffhanger ending. Joan Collins was laughing. The whole scene should have been re-shot. Must say, ol' John Forsythe was doing great, he looked like he was gonna blow a gasket, have a seizure almost. But as he approaches Joan Collins, everything turns to muck. It is clear that they succumbed to the hilarity of the situation. Fine, fine, you old guys are allowed your fun, but re-shoot it, okay?

In closing, as for DYNASTY #6, let bygones be bygones, it sure has its moments. Love ya after all :)

#7 is bought already... See you next year!
