Review - The Big Deal Aired 4-26-56 Friday, Smith are working the day-watch out of Auto-Theft Division. To catch the thieves they enlist the help of their contact Whitey, leading to a dubious character Roger Grayson, giving a description of the three characters. Joel Pennet thinks he bought a stolen car; Smith confirms the car was stolen. Pennet's cancelled check and the pink slip signatures were endorsed the same; they were signed Ralph Prescott. The fake original seller leads Friday, Smith to a business office void of furniture, the superintendent, Tad Whitney said they evidently moved out over the weekend; they were there two weeks. The pink slip was a forgery.

Forgery has picked up a printer, cashing a lot of phony checks and found a stash of pink slips. Harry Larwill, had a printer in his home used for printing bogus checks and creating fake pink slips. Friday, Smith grill Larwill for the names of the people he printed the slips. He gives up names. Harry is arrested. The woman denied being a part of the gang, Friday, Smith tell her otherwise. She thinks she is going without punishment for the actions of her compatriots. Friday tells her otherwise; she is guilty as they are.

The forger and car thieves were all found guilty, tried, convicted and all are serving time. An above average episode as Friday, Smith go through the process of checking every lead, tracking every detail finding the cars were sold quickly after they were stolen via forged documentation and bogus sales offices.

Awesomely funny

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great episode in my book. It is awesomely funny in many ways and an interesting look at crime and punishment in 1950's LA.

Some clever crooks eventually slip-up and start getting caught. Will the police get to the bottom of it all?

(There is a lot going on so of course we don't have long drawn-out confessions, there simply isn't time).

A case involving some very smart car thieves.
planktonrules16 December 2013
Sergeant Friday and Officer Smith are investigating a ring of thieves who are stealing cars and reselling them. However, these thieves are a lot smarter and more enterprising than most, as they don't just take the vehicles but forge very realistic looking 'pink slips' (the car ownership papers). They sure seem to be genuinely used cars up for sale and that is why it's so hard to catch the guys. It also is tough because when they catch a tough dame who is part of the gang, she refuses to say anything and thinks she can outsmart the 'dumb cops'.

All in all, I thought this episode was worth seeing but offered fewer thrills than normal and failed to keep my interest. I am not saying it's bad (it wasn't)--it just doesn't stand out for any particular reason.
