Dick In Distress!
ShadeGrenade12 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Thanks to Stuart-Clark's incompetence, Professor Loftus almost amputates a perfectly healthy leg. Fortunately, the mistake is realised in time, but this does not stop the Professor from giving the anaesthetist a piece of his mind.

Word of the near-disaster spreads, and Dick suddenly finds himself socially ostracised. The nurses no longer fall for his charm. Even Duncan and Paul cannot bring themselves to side with their colleague.

Depressed beyond measure, Dick decides to retire from medicine, and seek out a new career in advertising...

Excellent episode, boasting a tour-de-force performance from Geoffrey Davies, as he goes from being the chipper dandy we all know and love to a dour shadow of his former self and back again.

Ernest Clark gets one of his best scenes as 'Loftus', when he admonishes Waring and Collier for adding to their colleague's woes.

Funniest moment - in the operating theatre, a penitent Duncan and Paul try to persuade Dick to stay in St.Swithins, and when he fails to respond, the patient ( Christopher Biggins ) throws in his two pennyworth and sides with them!
