Quotes

Churchwarden: Hey! One more word, sir.
[the Doctor turns again to face the Churchwarden]
Churchwarden: If you should come this way again and find me gone, remember these words. This is Deadman's secret key: Smallwood, Ringwood, Gurney.
The Doctor: Eh, but what to, ah... What's the purpose, sir?
Churchwarden: It's a secret worth remembering...
The Doctor: Yes...
Churchwarden: ...for this kindness...
The Doctor: ...thank you. Thank you indeed...
[points to the Churchwarden's hand]
The Doctor: ...and I think that's going to be all right now. Yes. Ye... heh, heh... s. Goodbye, sir. Goodbye.

The Doctor and his companions entertain in a decent Jamaica Inn type adventure
21 August 2014 | by (South Wales, UK) – See all my reviews

Review of all 4 parts:

This 4 part adventure on the coast of 17th Century Cornwall takes Doctor Who into a Jamaica Inn type world with a tale of smuggling and hidden treasure.

It could easily be a decent quality BBC production of that kind of period drama but with the interesting addition of the Doctor and his new companions. They perform well providing exactly what is required from companions creating added drama, action scenes and nice dialogue between them and the Doctor.

All the acting, the direction and the general values on show from Brian Hayles' story and its presentation are of a fair standard and it is just an entertaining romp with some colourful characters. A solid, if unexceptional, adventure.

My Ratings: Episode 1 - 8/10, Episode 2 - 7/10, Episode 3 - 8/10, Episode 4 - 7/10
