Storyline

Mark Mylow comes in for his medical check up and Martin is concerned at one particular aspect of his physiology. Combined with fiancée Julie's big news, this could mean some bumps in the road as far as their relationship is concerned. Danny asks Louisa something important but her ambivalence is compounded by the fact that he is also planning to return to London to undertake his dream architectural project. Martin and Louisa have a heart to heart talk and, in his cups, he tells her exactly how he feels. Martin takes pharmacist Mrs. Tishell to task for constantly wearing a neck brace pointing out that in most cases, it isn't required. When she removes it however, it becomes apparent that it is anything but a psychosomatic crutch. Written by garykmcd

Quotes

[Martin and Louisa are sharing a bottle of wine at his house. Rather sheepishly, he explains that he doesn't normally drink alcohol because it makes him fall asleep]
Dr. Martin Ellingham: [looking into Louisa's eyes] You're so beautiful. You're so very beautiful - d'you know that? All I think about, every day, is just catching a glimpse of you.
[they lean across the table and kiss]
Dr. Martin Ellingham: [whispers] Oh, Louisa!
Louisa Glasson: [whispers] Shhh. Don't spoil it.
Dr. Martin Ellingham: I love you. I love you.
Louisa Glasson: Martin, this bloody table's in the way.

This is one of the best episodes due to the humorous moments and the actors performance
8 September 2006 | by (Romania) – See all my reviews

I think this episode is one of the best as humor is implicit in every speech of the actors. The intense emotional moment of drinking around the table finishes totally unexpected !!!!!!. Both are overwhelmed, but every one in a personal manner. Anyway, love is not in Martin's province! Louisa tried to find the real Martin and she succeeded to a certain point. She knows for sure that Martin loves her and actually that's what she wanted to find out first.

But, the doctor is so scared of love, of the complexity of his own feeling so that he tries to escape in a "medical" way. Of course, it is totally unacceptable for a woman like Louisa. That's why I said at the beginning it was one of the best occasions for Mrtin Clunes to show a nice sample of playing in a humorous and in the same time in a very serious manner.
