"Totally Trivial" is - uniquely - broadcast live from Granada Studios in the North West.
The episode opens on the morning of Monday 7th February 2000, and ends three weeks later on Monday 28th February.
Victoria Wood had let the BBC know by this stage that she wouldn't be writing a third series of the sitcom. She found writing the second season hugely draining - to the extent that she suffered from writer's block - and wanted to end it neatly. She referenced the two seasons of John Cleese's Fawlty Towers (1975) as a sitcom that had served its purpose and had indeed attained classic status because it hadn't dragged on and on.
