More a confusing development than a battle
29 January 2015 | by See all my reviews

The title is again misleading, as the actual said battle only lasts for a fraction of the episode, and it's a surprisingly brutal one at that, bolstered by one of the most visually impressive attacks in the series: Metal Wolf Claw. The appearance of the land in the sky is definitely unexpected, and the episode as a whole sets up the next story arc quite nicely. Ultimately, though, this will be a notable letdown because it will become very apparent that there is little reason for this final part of the series. Some attempts are made at character building, but inspire little more than lamentation. The scene with Matt's family, together for the first time in years, had SO MUCH untapped potential, as every member therein acted exactly as one would expect during such a meeting. It is a good reminder that occasionally this series does infuse its characters with uncommon realism, but also serves as a perfect example of the Myotismon Arc's misguided focus. Would it not have been so interesting to have Matt and T.K. actively learn more about their parents' divorce? Perhaps that is beyond the capacity of most children, but the series has benefited much from parents being honest with their kids, even with difficult details. Such boldness for the sake of the characters is what distinguishes many of the greatest animated programs, and is something that "Adventure" could have very much used more of. Aside from that, the scene of the kids returning to the Digital World is well done, transitioning into the next story arc.
