The Sloane sleuths are joined by female Scotland Yard inspector Churchill when a murder is committed by Grant Connors, an expert art thief and seducer she follows everywhere. A common feature of the show was to use cast members of other TV shows to make subtle references to them. Here Stephanie Zimbalist plays a foreign detective looking for a mysterious jewel thief. This comes from the origin of her former show Remington Steele, where a foreigner was involved with a jewel theft. What's more she says she smokes cigars to get the male detectives to accept her, which was something her former character had to deal with. See more
Mark talk about the seven jewels that had belonged to the Czar of Russia being openly sold to collectors. No one could have legal ownership of the jewels (having been presumably stolen from the Czar) so they could not be sold on the open market. See more
