Very good entry
coltras3523 June 2022
A humiliated medic becomes prime suspect in the death of another doctor, who happened to lead a double life. As Dr Sloan and co. Investigate they realise she had many one night stands. This is a very good episode with a smattering dark-tone, covering subjects such as domestic violence.

A dark episode...Looking for Mr. Goodbar that's for sure

Warning: Spoilers
All credit to Diagnosis Murder for their willingness to tackle bold social issues of the day. Murder, She Wrote is genial and safe, with nary a real life issue in the script, but I always say that MSW is a product of the Reagan-Bush era, and Diagnosis Murder was a product of the Clinton presidency.

Anyway, we see a drunk surgeon who has to confront his alcoholism, and thankfully Mark steps in. There are references to AA, a higher power, and also God, and all credit to the screenwriter for treating this sensitively. The episode also deals with domestic violence inflicted by a witness under federal protection.

The murder victim, Dr Claire Hartman (played with a sultry attitude by Karen Moncrieff) who enjoys many a one night stand, picking up her seductees at a night club (reminding me of the Shannon Tweed seduction scene in Hot Dog), and she even had a penchant for filming her seductions in her bedroom. This is kind of like Looking for Mr. Goodbar, whereas Murder, She Wrote is a reflection of Goodbye Mr Chips.

Wayne Duvall was impressive as Mr. Nolan, a house manager who has a hankering for Dr Hartman.
